Date Added: 27 September 2010 Year: 1990 Institution Name: dnhhl Cat No: | 2003_214_028 | Picture No: 9596

One of a series of 30 photographs, taken on 30th May 1990, during the construction of the Dornoch Firth bridge. The annotation on the back reads ~ View up underneath the ‘Nose-piece’ fitted before the advancing first half-section of the bridge decking, showing this relatively light structure that takes the weight of the advancing bridge section until it reaches the pier head. Special laminated steel pads treated with the material that coats domestic frying-pans (see 2003_195) prevent the bridge sections sticking as they are pushed over the pier head.

Dimensions: Length 130mm - Width 90mm
