Date Added: 06 October 2009 Year: 1900 Institution Name: dnhhl Cat No: | 2008_140_08 | Picture No: 7857

Cross belt silver shield bearing sterling silver markings. The slightly curved shield has a decorated border and tapers to a point at top and bottom. On each side there are small diameter holders, sloping outwards towards the top of the plate. There are two screw thread mountings on the rear. This type of cross belt accoutrement had two small arrows mounted in the holders with the flights of the arrows attached to chains, which in turn were affixed to a boss or rosette located in a higher position on the cross belt. The superimposed image on the left show this type of silver shield mounted on a 19th Hussars cross belt. Possibly this shield was worn on the cross belt of the Royal Warwickshire Regiment to which Capt Rose was initially commissioned in 1898 (See picture #6829).

Dimensions: Length 81 mm - Width 57 mm
