Cameronians Officers Chako hatbox, which belonged to Capt Rose. The tin hat-box originally painted black has a handle on the top sloping lid plus an engraved nameplate 'Capt RH W Rose the Scottish Rifles' and a second with the makers name F W Flight. At some stage a label was fixed to the top lid but the remnants are illegible. The top lid is hinged with a metal clasp which could have been secured by a padlock. (The spelling Chako rather than the more common 'Shako' is used in Army Dress Regulations for the Cameronians (Scottish Rifles) - see picture #8171)
Dimensions: Length 300 mm - Width 225 mm depth 210 mm
