Monochrome photograph of a parade forming up in the square, led by four Halberd (combined spear and battleaxe) bearers wearing bowler hats and white gloves, immediately followed by Town Council members. The four gentlemen in the Halberd carrying group are from the right: George Moore, Alec Moore, David Duff and Simon Bain (latter two wearing medals). The person in charge of the parade is wearing top hat, tails and a shoulder sash. Council members in the immediately following group are wearing top hats and gowns. In the main body of the parade there are policemen, the Masonic Lodge and Boy Scouts. Remains of snow and ice on the ground. For memorial events the Halberds would be draped in black crepe - see picture #14946

The two Police Constables (and the Inspector) are all wearing the chequered cap band on their hats, which were introduced in the early 1930s.
