Fundamental to UK testing programme were the regional, mobile testing stations staffed by members of the Armed Forces. The military were deployed around the UK to help in a number of ways. In April they took part assisting NHS staff in the establishment of Nightingale Hospitals, with many reservists called upon when their own professional skills, such as accounting and construction were needed. Their mobility permitted them to undertake various logistics tasks around the country, with some personnel trained within a week to provide back-up for oxygen tanker drivers in the re-supply of hospitals with oxygen.
