'It's Bizarre'
At the outset of coronavirus social isolation, with the requirement to close the museum, it was decided that every effort should be directed to the enhancement of its website 'virtual presence'. In particular, there was concentration on making available on-line the film legacy, assembled over many years, held in various formats in the museum archive. Just prior to lock-down the museum mounted a weekend exhibition, coinciding with the annual Dornoch Fibre Fest 13-15th March 2020, with the principal object on display a three hundred year old woven silk dress on loan from Barbara Francis, which provides an important insight into 18th century Highland culture. (See picture #14334) Peter Wild seized the weekend display as an opportunity to make a short film, providing a close-up study of a 300+ year old silk brocade mantua passed down through the family of John Gray & Katherine Fraser of Overskibo. This became one of the first films to be made directly available during lock-down on the Historylinks Museum website.
