A railway Station Master's hat made from black felt with a stiff leather peak edged with gold braid, narrow black leather chinstrap, black patterned headband with 'Station Master' embroidered in gold braid, surmounted by a gold embroidered badge, on pale blue background, of a crown with emerging lion rampant holding a spoked railway wheel, all with a laurel leaf surround. There is a pale leather inner headband and red silk lining, with a clear protective cover. The makers name is printed in yellow on the silk lining "J Compton Sons & Webb Ltd, London" surmounted by the Royal Coat of Arms "By Appointment to Her Majesty the Queen'.
