
Bronze lifesaving medal awarded to William Cumming
Photograph of a Royal Humane Society Bronze Medal fpr saving life, in presentation box bearing he makers name Bockington & Co Ltd, Court Jewellers, 76 Cheapstide, awarded to William Cumming, fisherman of Embo for saving the life of his friend from the fishing vessel 'Pearl' in stormy seas in the Dornoch Firth 1912. The medal obverse bears the figure of a cherub trying to rekindle the flame of life surrounded by the wording 'Lateat Scintillula Forsan' (Peradventure a little spark may yet lie hid) the motto of the Royal Humane Society. The reverse has a wreath enclosing the wording 'Vit Ob Serv DD Soc Rec Hvm' (The Royal Society presented this medal for saving life' and the edge "He has obtained his reward for saving the life of a citizen". William was also awarded Carnegie Hero Fund Trust Certificate (2017.043.02).
