Date Added: 30 June 2017 Year: 1930 Institution Name: dnhhl Cat No: | 2017_034 | Picture No: 13449

A stout brown leather music case with a rigid rolled leather handle which forms part of the closure system, with a steel bar attached by two leather straps being secured over the handle. The case is gussetted with a single partition. There is a handwritten inscription inside the case flap "Helen and Lena Henderson Torrisdale House Dornoch" with a date in the top right corner of the flap "10/10/30". A subsequent inscription was added " Heather Lyon 2, Sunnybank Road Inverness" with the date added beneath the original "5/10/51". The donor believes the case must have been a present from someone who did not know the girls too well as the name "Helen" is incorrect, his mother was called 'Ellen' and along with her sister Lena must have used the case when attending music lessons at Dornoch Academy. Torrisdale House (now known as Clamish) is located at the foot of Roseberry Avenue. The second inscription indicates that the case was used by Ellen's daughter Heather later in Inverness.
