The Retreat From Mons

A faded reddish linen covered book "The Retreat From Mons" by Major A. Corbett-Smith, R.F.A. (Royal Fortress Artillery). The inside front cover has a Hetty Rose bookplate, above which is her signature with the date Oct. 1916. The title page has a facing portrait of General Sir H. Smith-Dorrien, from a painting by Arnold Mountford. The book, 256 pp, also contains 3 other plates and has an opening Roll of Honour of the First Expeditionary Force, which inter alia shows General Smith-Dorrien as the General Officer Commanding, Second Army Corps. At the end of the book is fold-out map of the country from Mons to Paris. The book formed part of the Hetty Rose collection.
