Treasure Trove objects from Pitgrudy Field 4 found by metal detection and acquired by the Inverness Museum & Art Gallery. A lead alloy mortuary cross with a piercing at the top of one arm. Crosses such as this have been recovered from excavation of burials in medieval monasteries and at least three lead alloy crosses have been found metal-detecting at Dornoch, Tain and Holywood in Dumfries, suggesting that they may be the result of disturbed medieval burials. English examples indicate that these crosses were attached to the shrouds of monks, clerics and nuns. Dim: 3.1 x 3.2 mm © Inverness Museum Inverness Museum Catalogue 2008.036.003
