Photograph of the winch for operating the sluice gates at the Mound in its original position. It was re-positioned in the external display at Historylinks Museum in 2004.

'Turning the page', using the right facing arrowhead adjacent to Cat No. above, shows at 2011_086_03 a photograph of the chain linking the winch to the sluice raising mechanism; the following image 2011_086_04 is a general view from the south of the sluice gates with 2011_086_05 a view of the raising mechanism from the winch housing window.

The winch was donated to Historylinks by Babtie Engineering and is thought to have been installed in 1834 to a design by Thomas Telford.
