Monochrome photograph of Sister Lily Murray, Queen Alexandra's Imperial Military Nursing Service, daughter of Peter (a Joiner) and Margaret (Mackay) Murray of 4 Sutherland Road, Dornoch and sister of Angus who was killed in World War 1 (see 2009_015_01). Lily is presumed to have died in February 1942 as a result of the sinking of the SS 'Tanjong Penang' by the Japanese. The last telegraph received from Lily "Fit and well, love Lily" received 27/1/42. Lily's sacrifice is commemomorated on the Dornoch War Memorial World War 2 tablet.

Very sad, but very proud of my great Aunt Lily. Will remember her and her brother Angus on remembrance day .
