The Automatic Coil Winder & Electrical Equipment Co Ltd Signal Generator Type III. Galvanised metal case (a) with knobs to adjust range, set frequency, attenuator and mode; outputs for LF and RF; a dial showing the frequency; and a carrying handle at the top. Attached power cable without plug, a separate length of coaxial cable (b) with a connector made by the same manufacturer with connectors marked "dummy aerial" and "direct", and a further shorter length of coaxial cable (c). Used to generate signals for testing and tuning early television sets. The donor's father was an electrician who installed the first TV set in Dornoch, in the Burghfield Hotel for Queen Elizabeth's coronation.
