Hand-written message dated 21 10 14 8.30 a.m.: "To OC Cameronians, From OC 'C' Coy I had to retire a bit owing to heavy machine gun fire on my flank. I placed wounded behind haystack (messenger can point out) I have no means of getting them back further. One man left to attend them. I am now able hold on. R H W Rose Capt". This message was enclosed in a letter to Mrs Rose from Philip Robertson (see 2008.145.10)
