Postcard from Frederick Rose to Hetty Rose
A handwritten postcard from Frederick, the father of Capt Rose, to Hetty Rose, quoting the content of a letter from Capt Rose dated 21 Sep 14: "I hope it will not be very long before I am able to come and see you. We have been having wet weather . We feel very well and are very hungry. The open air life enables me to do things which at ordinary times mean death. I cannot give you any local names. I have to read all the men's letters. I washed myself today and feel very well and comfortable. It is not a bad thing to enclose an addressed unstamped envelope when you write as envelopes and ink are very scarce. I ought to have been inocculated for typhoid but too late now. So far the Army has been very health, but horses and men have sometimes to be left unburied".
