Silver golf medal - Robert Mackay 1894

Ornate silver medal (a) of roughly shield shape with a scroll at the top engraved GOLF HANDICAP. Below this is a brass or copper plaque engraved 2nd Prize R. McKay 1894. Maker's mark of C.E.S stamped on the back, with hallmarks lion, t, anchor (Birmingham 1893/94). The medal has a ring at the top which fits over a hook in the accompanying presentation box (b), which is covered in dark brown paper. The base of the box is lined with dark blue velvet - faded out to brown where exposed to the light - and the lid with pale blue silk.
