
Personal documents seafaring William Ross of Embo
A collection of documents in respect of seafaring William Ross of Embo containing personal details of birth, marriage, membership of Dornoch Angling Club, and predominately merchant navy contracts, certificates of service, proficiency and competency and ultimate certificate of discharge. Unknowns are photographs of a house and sepia studio studies of a man and woman. There is a small magazine image of the two-mast 'Zulus' fishing vessels, favoured in Embo.
A subsequent acquisition provided additional family documents, extracts of birth certificates of George Ross 20 Jan 1858, Ann Ross c 1860, extract of entry of birth of Annie Ross 7 Feb 1890, Crofters Holdings (Scotland) Act 1882 Record No 655 addressed to William Ross Ospisdale Moor, Dornoch concerning a hearing in respect of the fix of a fair rent on 17th May 1892, and letter accompanying Medals granted to R Ross Seaforth Highlanders for service in South Africa with clasps Wittenberg, Drieforntein, Paardlberg and Cape Colony with date stamp 9 October 1902.
