'St Gilberts Social Club for Girls' document bundle

A bundle of documents and three notebooks relating to the 'St Gilberts Social Club for Girls' contained in a stout black leather handbag, . The black leather bag has a motif on the side of a castellated tower surrounded by a sash bearing the inscription 'Virtue Mine Honour'. There are blemishes to the leather. The principal hard cover notebook in the handbag is inscribed in the front cover 'Property of the Secretary of St Gilberts Social Club for Girls, Formed October 14th 1947 Secretary Miss Gordon'. The latter name has been overwritten to read Effie Murray. The first half of this notebook is devoted to a List of Officers, their duties, Membership, the Motto "Forward Together" and a Roll Call with members addresses. The second half of the notebook contains Minutes of Meetings from 14 October 1947 to 11 July 1951. The inaugural minutes show the elected office bearers, with Miss J Lavack as Hon President and Miss Jean Chisholm as President. and the significant matters determined were that the club should be affiliated to the Cathedral and membership open to any girl at the age of 16 who was not a member of the Rangers and any girl of 20 -25. An application was made to the Dean's Court for use of the West Church Hall on Tuesdays from 8 to 10 p.m. The second hard bound notebook contains minutes to 1st Nov 1953 with details of elected officers and Roll Calls. The remainder of the document bundle include correspondence related to the purchase of equipment (e.g badminton racquets), with receipts and accounts.
