Alex Ross with wife Florence on cover of Newsletter 1987
Two copies of the RDGC Newsletter Spring 1987 with a photograph of Alec Ross and his wife, Florence, on the front cover. A short article 'In the Footsteps of Donald and Alec Ross (courtesy of the Northern Times) is at the end of the Newsletter.
Alec was the forgotten brother of Golf Architect Donald Ross. He followed his brother to the US a few years after Donald and worked as a Club Professional at the Detroit Golf Club for 31 years. However his achievements are little remembered and overshadowed by the legacy left by Donald. As a player Alex won the American open in 1907, thirteen other Open Championships in America and the Swiss Open three times. He retired to Florida where he died in 1952 aged 72.
