In May 2020 Historylinks Museum was contacted by Highland Council Member Cllr Jim McGillivray who suggested that the Museum would be best placed to preserve the paperwork and other material, in particular the video webcasts of proceedings, pertaining to the Coul Links Inquiry, which was of particular significance in the social history of Dornoch.

As a matter of routine, in line with the policy on case documents, the Planning and Environmental Appeals Division (DEPA) retain a copy of their Inquiry webcast videos on their website for 12 weeks following the date of the Inquiry Decision being issued. Accordingly, there was no delay in making contact with DEPA, with confirmation provided that DEPA owned all footage of webcasts and they were happy for Historylinks Museum to download copies for inclusion in a Coul Links Archive*. With recognition of the time required for downloading, it was kindly agreed that the videos would not be removed before the week commencing the 8th of June. It was also confirmed that the indexing feature was built into their website and would not be available on the downloaded videos.

Historylinks Chairman Jerry Bishop gave priority to downloading 17 video files, almost 90 hours of content, amounting to 25 Gb of data including all documentation which had been in the public domain on the DEPA website.

Mindful of the in-house work that would be required in compiling easily accessible pdf files within the Coul Links Archive, the Museum was able to obtain, on a one-year licence, Adobe Acrobat Pro software. Not only did this confer benefit in respect of minimum size consolidated pdf files for Coul Links documents but also subsequently, within the year, for other large pdf files in the museum archive.
