Dean of Guild Court Dornoch Petition dated September 1949. This folded document relates to the petition of Mr Alistair Maclean Esq., Church Street, Dornoch, for a warrant to erect a kitchen at the rear of the house in Church Street Dornoch, Dornoch. In addition to the 6 pages of the Petition, the document bundle contains: two identical plan drawings on waxed paper of the proposed extension, one of which is annotated; a letter of objection dated 15th October 1949 from D G McCulloch, Church Street; a letter from Arthur & Carmichael, Solicitors of 14th November 1949 to the Town Clerk returning a copy of the drawings; a letter from Arthur & Carmichael, Solicitors of 18th November 1949 confirming Sutherland Estates has "no objections to further buildings being erected on the ground; a typed copy of the letter dated 16th November sent to Arthur & Carmichael from the Factor, Thomas Adam, Sutherland Estates; and finally a document from the Town Clerk's Office dated 16th December 1949 stating that the Court will meet on 19th December 1949 "for the purposes of finally disposing of this petition". The length of the proceedings can (perhaps?) be attributed to the fact that the land on which the property was to be built belonged to the Sutherland Estates.
