Extract from the 'On this Day' section of the Northern Times of 31 July 2020, with the tag '100 Years Ago' reporting a crowd of hundreds gathered in Dornoch on Saturday 24th July 1920 to see three of the four German field guns which were inside the railings of the Territorial Buildings dumped in Quarry Pool. As each gun was drawn along the street 'the crowd cheered to the echo'. The fourth gun located near the slaughter house was too heavy to move. As recorded in the article there were mixed feelings about the dumping of these relics of World War 1. (See subsequent Community Council quandary at picture #4424)
