Although the decision was met with "trepidation" events "wildly exceeded expectations", the C.C. being undefeated in the League, the victors of an annual match against a Caithness XI to regain the Burghfield Trophy and only suffering two defeats in the year, both in Knockout competitions and ''by narrow margins''.
