Christmas party hosted by Mrs Carnegie 1942
Extract from the Northern Times of 8 January 1942, reprinted in 'From our old files' on 6 Jan 17, recording the annual Christmas entertainment given by Mrs Andrew Carnegie of Skibo to her estate employees, their wives and the pupils of Skibo School which took place on Christmas Day in the Carnegie Hall, Clashmore. Mr Whittet, factor presided. The hall was beautifully decorated with a Christmas tree occupying the platform and after a short programme of hymns carols etc, a most enjoyable tea was served followed by a cinema show. Despite war conditions Santa Claus arrived as usual with splended gifts for every child, augmented by useful gifts presented by Commander Miller. The employees also received Christmas cheques from Mrs Carnegie. On behalf of the estate employees Mr James Alison Head Gardener expressed appreciation of the generosity of Mrs Carnegie with the usual vote of thanks. The enjoyable proceedings ended with the singing of the national anthem.
