Extract from the Northern Times 'From our old files' published on 31 January 2014 reporting: 75 years ago (1939) the new road over the embankment at the Mound opened with the first driver to negotiate a public vehicle over the new road Mr James Macrae of the Highland Transport Company; the development of a new agriculture course at Sutherland Technical School; plans by Mrs Carnegie to erect a new school at Clashmore; Mr Ali Davidson, younger son of Mr & Mrs Alex Davidson, Poultry Yards, Skibo, receiving the appointment of assistant planter with the American-Malayan Rubber Company; 100 years ago: representatives of the public bodies in Sutherland interested in public health matters met in Lairg to make recommendations for distribution of the Highlands and Islands Medical Service Grant for the county of Sutherland.
