Army issue map case 1944 pattern
A webbing canvas Army issue map case, stamped on the inside of the front flap 'W & G Ltd 1944' with upward pointing arrow. At the top of the reverse of the case there are two brass buckles on web loops, attached to which is a 110mm webbing neck strap with brass ends. The case has an inner pounch with perspex window for insertion of a folded map, and the case cover has pockets for 4 pencils and an Army oblong protractor. The cover is secured by two brass studs at its corners, which are secured by brass sockets on a small flap below the map pouch. It was common for the pockets to hold colour wax pencils which could be used on the perspex window for map marking. [This is the same issue as the webbing at picture #11978]
