The black linen card cover has an olive green dust sheet bearing a head and shoulders photograph of John Jarmain in uniform wearing a Royal Artillery service dress cap. John Jarmain was an anti-tank gunner with the 51st Highland Division in action at El Alamein followed by the advance through the Libyan deserts and Tunisia followed by the invasion of Sicily. During this time he wrote over 150 airmail letters to his wife inside which he sent poems. The text contains a portrait of John Jarmain and various monochrome photographs of this period of WW2. James Crowden, contacted the Historylinks Museum as a result of seeing the Capt Rose Collection photograph albums of Lt Robert Cotton Money whom he knew as a friend and kindly donated a copy of this book because of its association with the 51st Highland Division in which servicemen from Dornoch served.
