British Army water bottle in shoulder carrier
British Army 1939 pattern water bottle in skeleton webbing carrier with shoulder strap. The enamel water bottle is covered in khaki felt, the main purpose of which was to prevent any noise arising from an object striking the metal water bottle. The skeleton carrier has a stud and button to secure the bottle inside the carrier and on either side short straps ending in brass buckles. This arrangement provided versatility allowing the skeleton carrier to be attached either to a shoulder strap or attached to the basic form of webbing (see previous image) carried on the rear hip. In this configuration the skeleton carrier was buckled to the shoulder strap extension beyond the rear buckle of the waist belt and, at the front, to the shoulder strap extending below the ammunition pouch. The skeleton carrier has a stamped mark 1942.
