Inspector's Visiting Report Book Dornoch 1916-1918
Inspector's Visiting Report Book Dornoch 1916-1918 required to be kept "for every poor person whatsoever whether resident or non-resident (Including lunatic paupers) whose cases have been considered and determined by the Parish Council and who are admittedly chargeable to the Parish". Inspectors were required to enter, opposite the dates of visit, "all alterations which occur in the circumstances of the paupers as there are detailed in the General Register of the Poor, noting also any changes in their families whether living with them or not". This book has eighteen two page entries, which provide a valuable insight into the social history of the period. The book has a brown leather spine, beige linen-covered card front cover with gold lettering "Visiting Report Pocket Book." The rear linen cover is purple, and the pages have marbled edges. The pages are blue paper with a printed format including report index number, with thumbed alphabetical index on the first twelve pages. The book was originally held by Dr. James Maclachlan, GP in Dornoch from 1895-1936.
