
JH Steward Challenge Cup - Robert Mackay 1906
Silver goblet-shaped trophy (a) on circular dark wood plinth (b). The trophy has a wide band of foliate decoration around the rim and is fluted at the lower part of the bowl and upper part of the foot. The details of the prize are engraved on the front: "1906 1ST PRIZE J H STEWARD Challenge Cup Competition PRESENTED BY J H STEWARD Official Optician to the NATIONAL RIFLE ASSOCIATION 406 STRAND LONDON WON BY CR SERGT R MACKAY 1ST SUTHERLAND HRV". Maker's marks stamped below rim decoration: E&Co, anchor, lion, f (Elkington & Co, Birmingham, 1905/6). The cup is slightly distorted at the rim.
The top of the plinth is covered with dark blue velvet. An engraved silver plaque on the front gives details of the scores: "7 SHOTS 500 YDS SCORE 5S 5 5 5 5 5 5 5 - 35 TIE SHOTS 5 5 5 5 5 5".
