One of a series of 30 colour photographs, taken on 30th May 1990, during construction of the Dornoch Firth bridge. The annotation on the back reads ~ The South side abutment from below the bridge, showing the completed bridge deck section (topmost cement structure) sliding on laminated steel slipping plates (see 2003_195) between this member and the inverted U-shaped steel bearer section below, held up in turn by a powerful hydraulic jack (red) in the trough of the cement block at ground level.
