A pair of dish shaped brass pans suspended by green cord and attached to a steel beam with central pointer and pivoted suspension bracket. The bracket can be hand held by a woollen plume and, using a set of four brass weights, a balance achieved by centering the pointer in the suspension bracket. The four weights are: 2 drams, 2 scrupules, half dram and one scrupule. The scales have a wooden box with felt base and a small division to contain the weights. The lid has an attached piece of paper with a table of equivalent Troy and apothocary weights: grains, penny weights, 'drachms' and scruples.
