Dornoch Firth Bridge Construction ~ View upstream of Bridge
One of 13 photographs taken in July 1990, during construction of the Dornoch Firth bridge. The annotation on the back reads ~ View from the west (upstream) of the progress of the bridge, from motorboat. The Jack-up barge (nearest) and the third floating crane met ‘THOR’ of Christiani-Nielson Coy. with its 25 ton labtice jüb (could be Danish for lattice jib) derrick crane for pier construction work is to the right. The bridge decking has advanced to No 6 pier. Nos 7-10 piers are complete and ready to weight-bear. No 11 pier is being built – blue casings to set the concrete into octagonal shape can be seen, and the jack-up rig is driving the thinner protection piles round the fewer ‘navigable’ channel piers.
