Framed monochrome photograph of three postmen with vans and motorbikes taken outside the old Dornoch Post Office. Acquired when the tourist office in the old post office closed down.

Thank you. The right hand van must be DGU 799, a pre-war Morris Minor mailvan with Duple bodywork while the two motor cycles are likely to be DGU 580/1, BSA 4.99 h.p. combinations known to have operated at Dornoch from January 1937 to October 1943. 1940 is a bit too late for the photograph as the vehicles would have white edging and covered headlamps by then - suggest the photograph was taken in 1937 after the four vehicles were delivered to Dornoch.

Comment left on 21 October 2013 at 20:23 by Christopher Hogan Many thanks for the dates - as far as I can see on the original image here in the Museum the car on the left is, as you say, DGU 482, there is no sign anywhere of the registration number for the motor bikes and the car on the right has the number partially obscured by the postman but is D?? 799. I will amend the date of the above image to 1940 Administrator
