One of a series of 30 photographs, taken on 30th May 1990, during the construction of the Dornoch Firth bridge. The annotation on the back reads ~ The first floating unit – the jack-up pile driver – with ancillary barges. The four turrets of the stabilising legs can be seen at the corners of the barge. These have been let down to the sea-bed and the barge has climbed up them free of the water altogether. A. Rapier NCM dragline, track-laying crane is mounted on board for positioning the pile driving unit which is below the crane hook and tackle on the far side of the unit.
