Psalter with dark blue mock leather cover, with fine lattice design and embossed on front a design of burning bush with the words "NEC TAMEN CONSUMEBATUR" around it. There is gold lettering along spine "THE SCOTTISH PSALTER 1929 - METRICAL". The flyleaf has a handwritten inscription "Skibo Castle 1938". The pages are divided horizontally with the music above and the words below so that the words and tunes, printed in four-part staff notation, can be selected independently of each other, allowing variation in choice of tune to accompany the words of the psalms.
