Wedding Dress 1901
Wedding costume made of fine royal blue wool in two pieces, bodice and skirt. The bodice has long sleeves and a stand-up collar. It fastens in the front, and the fastenings are concealed under a false blouse front made of cream cotton covered with cream silk, decorated with metal thread. The front and sleeves of the bodice are decorated with applied flowers made of metal thread with small beads and silk net. The bodice is lined with cotton. The cuffs and waistband are edged with silk.
The full length skirt is decorated with applied flowers and is lined with cotton. A badly decayed band of orange silk runs round the inside of the hem.
The dress was worn by the mother of Hugh & Lilly MacKay for her wedding in 1901. It was given to the museum in an old Jenners box, but this was not the original box for the dress.
