WW1 officer's tunic

WW1 officer's tunic

Date Added: 02 March 2010 Year: 1914 Institution Name: dnhhl Cat No: | 2004_245 | Picture No: 8296

Khaki tunic in fine wool with gold coloured Seaforth buttons and Seaforth lapel badges with a separate T below. Probably a WW1 officer's tunic from a territorial Seaforth Battalion, but not the 5th Sutherland, which wore Sutherland buttons. Two red stripes at the top of each sleeve indicate that the wearer's battalion was second in precedence in its brigade. A gilt bar near the left cuff is a wound stripe. The insignia of rank have been removed from the cuffs. There is a broken Seaforth cap badge in the left pocket, and a map of Finistere in the right pocket. The map looks later than WW1.

Dimensions: Length 710mm

I would guess that the owner was a member of the 1/6th (Morayshire) Btn. Seaforth Highlanders as this battalion was 2nd in precedence in 152 Bde. after November 1914 until the end of the war as well as being a territorial unit. Comment left on 15 July 2020 at 20:05 by Daniel Murray
