'Sit up and beg' wooden desk from Balvraid School with two ink wells, almost certainly a teacher's desk. There is an enclosed panel front, joined to two round rear supporting legs, and two folding side shelves. There is a brass lock for the lid and on lifting the lid reveals a single large storage area, for school books and equipment, with red ink stains. The retaining brass plate for the lid has been unscrewed and is now attached to the lock, presumably as a result of the loss of the key. The height indicates there would have been a raised chair which again points to the desk being for an adult. (Three colour photographs 2008.059.01 - 03)
Dimensions: Height 1001 mm depth 675 mm - Width 575 mm
