Royal Observer Corps silver cap badge with scroll 'Forewarned is Forearmed'. It belonged to James Macdonald, Christine Murray's father. It has two small rings on the rear with a split pin. The ROC had a primary World War 2 role in spotting, identifying and reporting enemy aircraft. Post war their role changed to the staffing of monitoring posts, established throughout the United Kingdom, equipped with instruments to record and report any nuclear attack on the country and subsequently to monitor radioactive fallout. The Corps was disbanded in the late 1980s with the end of the 'Cold War'.
