
Military Gas Mask
as mask for military use introduced c 1944; metal and rubber, with two glass eyeholes and elasticated straps. In khaki canvas holder (b) with canvas straps and side pockets. One side pocket contains an anti-dimming kit (c): a cylindrical tin with screw caps at both ends and instructions for keeping the glass of the gas mask clear. Gas mask in good condition, holder oily and dirty. CAUTION contains asbestos. gas mask has front and side filter, stamped with "PR.559 GD 2/64" inside straps. (b) canvas holder has canvas straps with metal loop fastenings and printed on inside IN LIGHT II M & Co H II/142" and on the back two metal loops for attachment of a further type of strap. Inside is a metal poppered pocket at the bottom of the bag and a flap at one side. It has printed underneath top "LIGHT II M & Co H 2/44". Lid closed with canvas and metal buckle. Two metal poppered side pockets, one contains extra cord which is attached to a metal loop on outside; the other contains (c) - metal tin with "OUTFIT, ANTI-DIMMING, MK.7. INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE. Breathe on inside of eyepiece glass and clean thoroughly with cloth provided rub a dry finger on compound and then rub it vigorously all over eyepiece glass to leave a thin slightly smeary film. Do NOT polish. In cold weather breathe on glass and compound to aid spreading. PR 13 GA T.P.D. CYL. No. 248. M.K.4. 1.54."
