I cannot believe that this photograph is what its description purports it to be - a picture of a ferryboat crossing the Meikle Ferry in 1980. I think it is a picture of the Kessock Ferry boat. The name of the boat appears to be "Rosehaugh", which, according to another website (berwickshipyard.com/Ferries.html), was the vessel that plied the Kessock Ferry from 1967 until the ferry was closed in 1982.

Although I was correct in my earlier comment that the boat in the photograph was the "Rosehaugh", the last Kessock Ferry boat, it clearly was not plying that ferry at the time the photograph was taken. According to the Berwick Shipyard website which I quoted, after the Kessock Ferry closed in 1982 the Rosehaugh went on to work the Corran Ferry across Loch Linnhe until 2001. That is probably where the photograph was taken. The same website also states that in 2005 the Rosehaugh was based at Invergordon, working as an oil support vessel, having had its ramps and most of its superstructure stripped away. I do not know whether it is still running now. Comment left on 14 September 2011 at 18:09 by David MacLean
