Book entitled "Tomorrow never came" about the sinking of the SS."Athenia", published 1958, with inscription "to David Murray from Alice Waldie Gullin - a survivor of the Athenia", plus newspaper cutting from Daily Express 16th.August 1977, concerning the return of a survivor to Scotland. Mrs Ian C. Milne was a survivor. [See picture #11661 for an account of life on board the Athenia]

From Dollar, where was visiting mother, Dewar Steet, Dollar, Clackmannan-shire, residing New York (Scotsman 8 Sep 1939 p4) (Devon Valley Tribune, Clackmannan-shire 12 Sep 1939 p3). List 1 (Montreal Gazette 9 Sep 1939 p9). Home with 5 other survivors on American Banker from Liverpool to Boston, photo (Boston Globe 4 October 1939 p8).
There were two David Murrays that were crew members
Tourist Smoke-room Steward - David Murray 10 Rowantree Place, Lennoxtown, East Dunbartonshire. Two of D Murray (male), British landed Greenock, not under "crew." Probably David Murray "captain's steward", (daughters Josephine Murray and Denise Murray 2008 emails to AHOY Items 78 and 106, to Southern Cross, to destroyer, to Greenock, D-Day on a hospital ship off Arramanche, had retrained as a radio operator, emigrated to Australia, died 1994.) Unnamed ex- "second radio operator" on Athenia, survivor of Varegg to Galway? (Nottingham Journal 28 Aug 1940 p6). Also mentioned in Bernard Edwards (2017) p57 - short survivor's break after Athenia, joined Clan Macphee, torpedoed Lemp U30 again after convoy OB 197 dispersed, at 17.30 on 16 August 1940, rescued Kelet, abandoned ship again before U-A (Cohausz) torpedoed shelled and sank Kelet at 4.25 19 August, 1940, lifeboat survivors rescued by Varegg 24 August 1940 to Galway 22? August 1940, AHOY photo in Dublin? or after Athenia torpedoing? Parents Rowantreefaulds, Lennoxtown (Milngavie and Bearsden Herald 31 Aug 1940p2). Crew lists A, B, C, D.
