One of three sketches in the final pages of the war diary of Capt Ronald Hugh Walrond Rose, Cameronians (Scottish Rifles) written in pencil in a Army Book 153 - Field Message Book. The sketch has an inscription ' View from edge of our wood looking N'. It appears to have been drawn from the north bank of the River Aisne and directly south of Sainte Marguerite, from the note at top left 1/4 mile east of Venizel. 'Chivres' at top right, known as Chivres Val as at 2009, lies over the hill from St Marguerite. The Cameronians were in position on the River Aisne from 15 Sep - 5 Oct 1914. The other two sketches of front line positions appear at 2008.141.02 and 04.
