This letter is from William McAllister, one of the Earl's Captains of Militia in the '45 and "Dr Duguid" or whatever it says is really "Dear Dugald" as the abbreviation Dr was commonly used for the traditional greeting at the beginning of a letter in those days. So this is to Old Dugald Gilchrist the original factor for the Earl at this time. The subject is about the distribution of prize money captured when the militia retook Dornoch from the Rebels and found a cache of money. It turned out that Robert Gray of Creich another Captain and factor for the Earl, typically, received more than his share.
