Monochrome photograph of a large group of people gathered on Embo pier, all well dressed, possibly going on an outing. From an album of postcards and photographs taken by Mrs J.I.C. Mackay of Dornoch and its surrounding area.

From a few familiar looking people on the pier I would guess that this photo was taken in the 1950s and not 1930. This is supported by the style of the clothing being worn by these people.. especially the two girls wearing the striped balloon dresses.

I would suggest that this photograph is more likely to be early sixties when John Macintosh had a speed boat and introduced many people to water sking from Embo pier and the pontoon below the pier is where he docked Comment left on 11 August 2010 at 19:53 by Dan Murray
I would agree with Dan Murrays' comment. The speedboat and water sking used to draw great crowds on a Sunday afternoon although some were entirely against it on religious grounds. Comment left on 30 September 2012 at 01:11 by John Mackay
