I believe that the boy named here as Donald Cumming is in fact Donald Ross who was the elder son of John and Katie Ross who used to own the Embo Post office/supply store and the coal merchants there. There were many Donald Cummings from Embo in the past and the one Donald Cumming who it might be is Donnie Hugh Cumming but he was a few years older than this group.
I have written direct to Diane Marr to tell her of my doubts and have offered to send her lists giving details of many of the Embo Cummings going back to the late 1700s which I was sent some years ago by an Embo exile in Canada.
Perhaps you might know that 5 of these Cummings were drowned while fishing off Embo in the late 1800s and there is a grave stone in the Dornoch grave yard commemorating some of them.
