I remember, in the late 1940s, visiting this same salmon fishing station along with my parents to meet up with my uncle Kenneth Fraser (Kenny aigh Peter Loudie) of 6 Front Street Embo. Kenny was employed as a member of the salmon fishing team there and I watched fascinated as the team continuously rowed their row boat into the fast flowing water, set their net in a wide semi circle and then bring it back to shore from where it was hauled in by hand. From what I saw the fishermen appeared to catch one and sometimes two large salmon on each haul of their net. From what I remember the fishing team worked from a large sand/mud ledge at the edge of the water…not a stony ledge as shown here. The team actually worked on the South side of the Kyle so in effect they were working in Ardgay in Ross Shire and not Bonar Bridge in Sutherland Shire.

Why is the station at Ardgay called Bonar Bridge
