Second World War - Baby's Protective Helmet
Khaki metal frame supporting a canvas helmet, with rubber and clear perspex visor attached by metal rivets. There is an attached brown rubber concertina hand pump, with canvas hand strap. The lower metal tray is adjustable to fit a baby's size, and the end has a crutch support adjusted by a canvas strap. There is a canvas girth strap around the helmet to seal the unit to the baby's body. The rubber visor has metal eyelets with string attachments to the metal frame. The helmet is contained in a cardboard box with lettering at one end 'One Baby's Protective Helmet' ; 'Name of Regional Store' with ink stamp addition 'Galashiels'; 'Date of Assembly' with ink stamp addition '21 Aug 42', and was found in the house of Bert Gillander in Murray Road.
